August 28, 2006 (WLS) -- Botox may be the answer to reducing the appearance of facial scars.
Researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota tested botulinum toxin, or Botox, on patients with lacerations on their faces.
Botox paralyzes muscles where the injections are given and is often used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
In the study, they gave Botox injections to some of the patients and placebo injections to the others. After six months, the Botox treated group reported a better overall appearance than the placebo group.
The results are published in this months issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
