Researchers developing allergen-free peanuts

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

There could be some relief for people who suffer from peanut allergies. Researchers at North Carolina A&T say they've developed a process to make allergen-free peanuts.

Tests showed they have made allergens inactive in 100 percent of the whole-roasted kernels they used. The processed peanuts caused no reaction in severely allergic individuals.

Researchers say the process won't change the taste or quality either.

Once the process is refined it will still require further study and FDA approval.
