Obesity may boost odds of developing certain cancer

Monday, June 22, 2009

We've all heard about the negative effects of being obese, now you can add an increased risk of endometrial cancer.

A new study in Obstetrics and Gynecology finds those extra pounds can significantly increase a woman's risk of developing endometrial cancer. That's especially true if she experiences early menopause.

The study found women in that category were 22 percent more likely to develop this type of cancer.

Researchers suspect that a hormonal imbalance is likely to blame for the increased risk.
