B6 may improve prostate cancer survival rates

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Men with early-stage prostate cancer may want to take a good look at their diet and how much B6 they are getting.

A new study suggests increased levels of B6 may improve survival rates.

The findings in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition does not prove, but suggests, there is a protective effect. Researchers say the protection seems confined to men whose tumors had not yet spread.

Vitamin B6 is found in a range of foods including beans, potatoes, bananas, meat, peanut butter and certain fish.

Before recommendations are made to prostate cancer patients, doctors say more research is needed.
