Flu vaccine might reduce pregnancy complications

Friday, May 25, 2012

Pregnant women who are vaccinated against the flu are less likely to have major complications.

A new study finds pregnant women vaccinated against the H1N1 swine flu had a significantly reduced risk of still birth, pre-term birth and having a baby small for gestational age.

There was no increase in adverse affects against women who were immunized.

The study is in the American Journal of Health. It is one of the first studies large enough to evaluate the association between flu vaccination and stillbirth.
