FDA warns about Korean shellfish
June 15, 2012 (WLS) -- The Food and Drug Administration is warning food retailers and distributors to stop selling Korean shellfish.
The government is warning that Korean shellfish shipped to the United States could be potentially contaminated with norovirus.
After evaluating Korea's shellfish sanitation program, the FDA said it found significant deficiencies, including inadequate sanitary controls, ineffective management of land-based pollution sources and the presence of norovirus in areas where shellfish are grown.
The agency said all fresh, frozen, canned and processed oysters, clams, mussels and scallops from Korea should not be sold.
