August 7, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- The consumption of sugary sweetened soft drinks is down in the nation's schools because many schools have banished them.
That's the good news. But, the bad news, according to a study in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, is sugar-saturated fruit drinks and sports drinks are taking their place. The study found the number of students who could buy a regular soda decreased overall by 50-percent, but researchers believe more work needs to be done in slimming down the sugary contents in student's diets.
