Migraine drugs for pregnant women could decrease babies' intelligence

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Several drugs used to treat migraine headaches could have long-term effects on the babies of pregnant women.

U.S. health regulators say the drugs Depakote and Depacon are among a class of drugs which can decrease children's intelligence if taken while their mothers are pregnant.

The pills contain valproate sodium and also are used to treat bipolar disorder and seizures.
