Possible link between C-sections, allergies in infants

Friday, August 09, 2013

Allergies are on the rise in children, but it's not clear why. New research suggests that method of childbirth may be a contributing factor.

Infants born via natural birth, a new study suggests, may have a lower chance of developing allergies. Infants born naturally pick up, what's considered healthy bacteria from the mother.

These 'healthy' germs help train an infant's immune system to recognize things like peanuts or bee venom without over reacting.

According to the research, infants born via C-section will miss out on some helpful bacteria.
