Diet, gene linked to colon cancer risk?
October 24, 2013 (WLS) -- Hundreds of thousands of Americans are diagnosed with colon cancer every year. Now, a study is revealing how your diet factors in.
Researchers from the University of Southern California studied the diet and genetics of thousands of people with colon cancer. They found that those who ate more red meat and processed meat and had a specific gene that helps with our immune system had a higher risk for getting cancer.
The link suggests that eating meat may turn on this gene and trigger an increased risk for tumor formation.
Researchers also found eating lots of veggies, fruits, and fiber can lower your risk for colon cancer.
