CFD investigates extra-alarm fire at Brach Candy plant

October 19, 2005 (WLS) -- An investigation is underway to determine what ignited a fire at the old Brach Candy Factory on Chicago's West Side early Wednesday morning.

The building was abandoned since 2001 when the Brach Company closed after 76 years of business.

Firefighters had a tough time getting water to the flames because the water source was not close by. Crews isolated the fire to the boiler room on the first-floor.

At least one firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire.
