February 7, 2006 (WLS) -- Police are investigating a threat made against Jim Rowe, a Republican candidate for the Illinois Senate. A bottle containing the threat was thrown through the window of Rowe's Franklin Park home.
The breaking glass woke up Rowe's son around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rowe called police. He believes it's some sort of campaign of intimidation.
"I've lived in the home here for more than 10 years, never had a problem like this. It's a quiet street, police never had to come through here until I decided to run for election," said Rowe.
Rowe is running as a Republican in a mostly Democratic 39th Legislative District. He has no opponent in the primary, so he's going against the incumbent, State Senator Don Harmon. Rowe believes someone from Harmon's campaign is responsible for the broken window and threatening note. Someone also slashed tires on his SUV and left Harmon's campaign literature on his windshield.
"We figured it was just dirty politic, but this has gone too far," said Jim Rowe, (R) candidate for Illinois Senate.
Senator Harmon said he has no idea who would have threatened Rowe, and said "I would never condone it and I don't believe anyone who supports my candidacy would stoop to it. I would welcome any law enforcement investigation of incident."
Senator Harmon said he is focusing on the Democratic primary. He has an opponent.
