North Halsted Market Days

One of the largest two-day festivals in Chicago, this festival spans 6 blocks with three music stages, 400 out-of-the-ordinary food and arts and crafts vendors from around the country. Check out Chicago faves like Vanessa Davis and Mighty Blue Kings. Going on August 5-6.

Corteo (August is the last month too see this show in Chicago!)

Yet in 'Corteo,' the clown becomes a central figure. This time around it is a clown's dream of the festive parade commemorating his death that puts this production in motion. Circus artists from 16 different countries (Argentina, Israel, Italy and Canada are among those represented) are part of the carnival atmosphere as the clown is feted with acrobatics, tight-wire or trampoline acts.

Caribbean Reef Dive

Plunge into the deep-sea world with a look at the Caribbean Reef, a 90,000-gallon tank located near the Shedd Aquarium's main entrance. More than 70 animal species inhabit this popular exhibit, including butterfly fishes, stingrays and sharks. Trained divers swim through the exhibit, feeding the fish and providing narration for visitors via a high-tech sound and video system.

77th Annual Bud Billiken Day Parade (August 12)

Over the years, the largest African American parade in the United States has attracted the likes of Muhammad Ali, Duke Ellington, Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, L.L. Cool J, Michael Jordan and President Harry S. Truman. This year, the Grand Marshall is Senator Barack Obama.

Hundreds of thousands line up early in the morning to get the best view of high-school drill teams, more than 160 floats and vehicles, marching bands and the Bud Billiken King and Queen making their way from 39th Street and Martin Luther King Drive south to Washington Park at 55th Street.

The Wiggles: Wiggle Dancing (Aug. 12-13)

Australia's Fab Four of the preschool set are celebrating their 15th anniversary with an all-new live concert tour.

The Wiggles are, without a doubt, the No. 1 preschool band in the world. With a steady gig on the Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney block, nearly two dozen music CDs, several DVDs and a line of T-shirts, toys and games, these guys are the masters of merchandising.
