Diocese of Rockford settles with victims in 2004 sexual abuse case

Thursday, May 10, 2007

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockford has agreed to pay more than two million dollars to settle a lawsuit by two young women.

The two women say they were sexually abused as teenagers by a former Geneva priest.

Father Mark Campobello was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2004. Campobello entered a guilty plea to molesting the girls in 1999.

One was reportedly abused a church at Geneva. The other was reportedly abused by Campobello at a rectory in Crystal Lake and Aurora Central Catholic High School where he was an assistant principal.
