Dog rescued from Chicago River

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Chicago police and firefighters made an unusual rescue in the Chicago River. They were called to the north branch of the river near Goose Island late Wednesday night for a dog that had jumped into the water.

The owner was walking his dogs when one of them -- named "Miss Pickles" -- decided to run after something. Miss Pickles went straight into the water.

The dog was paddling around in the river for more than 15 minutes before a police marine unit boat and fire department divers arrived.

"I want to thank the fire department and the police for saving my dog. She jumped into the river while chasing a rat and these guys pulled her out. Thank you very much," said Claude, dog owner.

After drying off from the late night swim in the river, Miss Pickles was reunited with the owner's three other dogs.
