November 20, 2007 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- The mother of college student who was shot during a robbery tried to save his life. The 18-year-old died Monday.
By all accounts Isaac Pink had a future filled with possibilities. He was starting college so that one day he could become a teacher. Police say he was shot to death Monday afternoon by a robber even though he did everything the gunman demanded.
Mother Joyce Pink said her son knew everything, from computers to art, and the murder destroyed it all.
She expressed her pride and sorrow as she talked about her 18-year-old son Isaac. He was shot down the street from the family home at a store on 101St on the far Southeast Side. She says she tried to help her son, but he had been shot in the face and chest.
"I opened up his shirt and I saw a bullet hole right in his chest," Joyce Pink said. "I had to keep trying to save him. Give him mouth-to-mouth and try to get him some air. I hope he could hear me say 'I love you. I love you.'"
Isaac graduated from Bowan High School and had started his freshman year at Truman College. He was studying art and computers. He wanted to become a teacher like his father, Israel Pink, who died a few years ago. His father was a math teacher for nine years.
Joyce Pink says she sent Isaac to college because she was concerned about his safety. She was planning to move because she says there was lot of crime in their neighborhood.
"I lost my baby. I lost my baby. He's gone. Can't bring him back," she said in tears.
Joyce Pink says she was putting up her Christmas tree, getting ready for the Thanksgiving holiday, when a neighbor told her that her son has been shot. Now she is planning his funeral. Police say they are looking for three men in this case.
