African-American men received the free screenings along with shaves and haircuts Saturday.

Saturday was designated 'Black Barbershop Health Outreach Day."

Statistics show an increasing number of African-American men suffer from preventable diseases. So, health services were being offered Saturday to black men at no charge at 25 barbershops across the Chicago area to make sure those who would not otherwise have access to health care could get screened.

The Illinois Department of Human Services sponsored the event.
