The Chicago Police Department has given Officer Mike Mette his badge back.

He spent nearly a year in an Iowa prison on an assault charge. Mette was released from earlier this month after an appeals court judge reversed the conviction and ruled he acted in self defense.

Mette had been convicted after he hit a man during a fight in Dubuque three years ago.

The police department confirms Mette has been given his star and shield and is attending refresher classes at the police academy.
