(WLS) -- Rev. Jeremiah Wright told an audience Thursday night that the media used him in an attempt to derail Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
Obama's former pastor took part in a forum at a church in Milford, Connecticut. He spoke on religion, race and U.S. history.
Wright took centerstage during the presidential campaignm when video clips showed him making anti-American statements.
Wright, former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, told the audience that his comments were taken out of context.
"They could care less about what I preach. Their intention was to use me as a weapon of mass destruction," he said.
Wright said Thursdaythat he did not believe Obama shared his opinions publicized on the videos.
Obama has severed his ties with Wright.
The reverend was set to speak at Northwestern University Friday night.
