Officer in court in videotaped bar beating case

A Chicago police officer charged with beating a bartender two years ago had a status hearing on Thursday.

Anthony Abbate is accused of beating and kicking a female bartender in a tavern in the city's Cragin neighborhood. He was off duty at the time of the alleged beating, which was recorded on videotape.

The incident took place more than two years ago.

Abbate is free on bond and appeared in court at the status hearing Thursday. No trial date has yet been set.
