Illinois is celebrating its first Pluto Day! Pluto is a planet once again-- but only in this state.

The Illinois State Senate adopted a resolution on February 26 to return Pluto to its planet status. The legislature voted Pluto was 'unfairly downgraded' to dwarf planet status in 2006.

According to the rest of the world, Pluto remains a dwarf planet.

Pluto was discovered by a Streator, Ill. astronomer in 1930. Pluto Day celebrates the planet, as well as Dr. Clyde Tombaugh, on March 13.

The resolution is posted online: ilga.gov
