A local organization is sending tens of thousands of pizzas to military troops overseas.

Organizers from "Pizza for Patriots" gathered at Chicago's Soldier Field Wednesday.

The non-profit group is gearing up to send 28,000 pizzas to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for the Fourth of July holiday. Donations were collected to cover the expense of the food.

Retired Master Sergeant Mark Evans is about to head to New York, where he will help load all that pizza.

"And we're going to not only ship 28,000 of Uno's pizza, but 8,000 Miller beers. They've helped us out on this," said Mark Evans, Pizza for Patriots

In January, Pizza for Patriots shipped 2,000 pizzas and 6,000 bottles of beer to U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
