The family of man killed in a police-involved shooting on June 11 is suing the Chicago Police Department in federal court.

The family's attorney contends Marcellus Perry was merely running away from the police, and according to a witness, posed no threat to the officers.

Perry's mother just wants answers.

"I just want justice for my son. I want to know what happened with him and why did they do...why would they shoot him down in the street like a dog?" said Desirea Barnes, Perry's mother.

Perry was with a companion the night of the shooting. The Chicago Police Department claims one of the men struck an officer causing the officer's gun to fire.

The case is under investigation by the Independent Police Review Authority.
