Swimming bans lifted at Chicago beaches

On the first official day of summer, the swimming ban was lifted at Chicago's beaches.

The Wilmette Avenue Locks were opened on Friday to accomodate the heavy runoff from the rain. That released toxins into the lake, which could be harmful to swimmers. However, tests Sunday morning showed the lake water was safe for swimming.

A swim advisory is in effect for the Oak Street and Montrose Avenue beaches, and swimmers are warned the water is still cold this early in the season.
