Sheriff's police are searching for a Mississippi man who was mistakenly freed from the Cook County Jail.

Authorities say Jonathan Cooper, who used to live in Lansing, Illinois, was brought to the Chicago area to face charges of failing to register as a sex offender. That charged was dropped and he was mistakenly released.

Cooper was supposed to be sent back to Mississippi to serve out the rest of his 30 year sentence on a manslaughter conviction.
