On the eve of the American Bankers annual meeting in Chicago, hundreds of people rallied to protest what they call a prolonging of the recession.

They say the banks are fighting reforms designed to protect the country from future problems and also created the foreclosure crisis.

Sen. Dick Durbin called on the banks to help revive the real estate market.

"As long as those plywood boarded up houses are sitting there, we're not gonna have an economic recovery. These banks have to realize they can't sit on these neighborhoods, on these families and on economic opportunity across America," said Durbin.

The bankers will be meeting in Chicago through Thursday.
