October 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Hailing a cab in Chicago Thursday will cost an additional 50 cents.
The fuel surcharge is going into effect again. That fee is added on to cab fares when gas prices have been above $2.70 for seven consecutive business days.
AAA reports on average regular unleaded in the city now sells for $2.86 a gallon.
Cabs should have an orange sign displayed in the seating area announcing the surcharge. Without the sign, drivers are not permitted to collect the fee.
