Rescan to ensure you have the best signal!

ABC7 is pleased to announce that we have been granted permission by the Federal Communications Commission to add an additional frequency for Digital Television. For viewers who have had difficulty receiving ABC7 over-the-air since the DTV transition in June, this additional frequency may result in improved signal strength and reliability. Viewers who have not been able to receive ABC7 over the air should try a rescan following the instructions below.

If you're having trouble with your DTV reception, try a "double-scan" by taking the following steps:

  1. Unplug the antenna from your digital television or DTV converter box.
  2. Follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure for auto-scan or a re-scan of channels (System should find zero channels).
  3. Unplug the power from the digital TV or DTV converter box for at least one minute.
  4. Plug the digital TV or DTV converter box back into the wall.
  5. Re-attach the antenna to the digital TV or DTV converter box.
  6. Follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure for auto-scan or re-scan of channels.

What has changed?

ABC7 is now broadcasting on UHF channel 44  with a digital translator on VHF channel 7. This means that some viewers who have had difficulty receiving ABC7 over the air may, after they rescan their Digital TV's or DTV converter boxes, now be able to receive a stronger signal.

This also means that some viewers, after they rescan their Digital TV's or DTV converter boxes, may be able to receive ABC7's three digital channels (7.1, 7.2, and 7.3) twice.  If this happens to you, you can simply choose to ignore the duplicate channels, or you can use the signal strength feature of your  Digital TV or DTV converter box to see if reception of one set of channels is stronger than the other.  If one set of channels (7.1, 7.2, and 7.3) is clearly stronger or more stable, you can follow your Digital TV or DTV converter box guide to delete the weaker channels from your receiver's memory.
