Police: 3 shot while detaining suspect

November 4, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Three men, including a Cook County Medical Examiner's Office death investigator, are hospitalized after they were shot at an apartment building.

Police say the three men were trying to hold a suspect until police arrived early Wednesday morning in the 6900-block of South Oglesby when the suspect's accomplice showed up and started shooting.

Police are now saying the suspects may have been trying to burglarize units in the South Shore building.

The Cook County medical examiner employee is now hospitalized in critical condition.

Police are looking for the suspects.

Police say a security guard at the building was trying to detain an armed man. A resident and a man who lives nearby tried to help him restrain the suspect when the apparent accomplice arrived and opened fire. The guard and the Good Samaritans were all hit.
