November 7, 2009 (CHICAGO) -- Starting today, calling your neighbor requires 10 digit dialing.
Chicagoans can now add 872 to the list of its area codes. The addition means everyone will have to dial a few extra numbers to place a call.
People using landline phones must dial 11 digits to place a call even if the number is in the same area code. That's one, plus the area code and then the phone number.
Cell phone users won't have to dial 1, but will still have to use the area code.
