Mourners remember Ill. soldier killed in action

November 7, 2009 (EVERGREEN PARK, Ill.) (WLS) -- Mourners gathered Saturday for the funeral of an Illinois soldier killed in action in Afghanistan.

Friends and family members of 22-year-old Army Specialist Jared Stanker lined the streets near his Evergreen Park church Saturday to pay their last respects.

Stanker was one of seven U.S. soldiers killed last Tuesday when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.

Stanker was a 2006 graduate of Brother Rice high school.
