Some families in need and homeless shelters are getting ready for thanksgiving thanks to a turkey giveaway.

Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services teamed up with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to give away 800 turkeys.

Sixty homeless shelters received holiday food baskets so families can enjoy a traditional holiday feast.

The Department of Family and Support Services has six community service centers across Chicago.
