CHERRY HILL, N.J. - November 20, 2009 -- We're exactly one week away from the busiest shopping day of the year.
Christmas decorations have been up at shopping centers and malls for some time.
That is except for Nordstrom which keeps the tradition of not decking the halls until the day after Thanksgiving
Santa is already on hand and stores are working hard at the Cherry Hill Mall to attract shoppers with big sales even before Black Friday.
"It's been like an additional 30-percent off ontop of coupons and they're giving us more coupons to keep us in," Monique Howell of North Philadelphia said.
The old adage says the early bird catches the worm. Retailers are looking to catch buyers with early bird specials.
Some Wal-Mart's will be open Thanksgiving Day and stay open around the clock.
The company that owns Cherry Hill Mall and 8 others locally will open them at 5:00 a.m. on Black Friday. Some stores in the mall will open even earlier.
"Our JC Penney's is actually opening at 4:00 a.m. and we have several retailers that will be opening at midnight, our Disney store, our Old Navy store, our Aeropostale, and our PS From Aeropostale and our Children's Place are all opening at midnight," Lisa Wolstromer of the Cherry Hill Mall said.
"I will be here personally at 4:30 in the morning and I'll be here all day long," Chris Foster of the Cherry Hill Verizon Wireless store said.
"I don't know if I should tell you. We have like a secret sale, an awesome secret sale, it's going to be something off of everything," Cheron Andrews of Ann Taylor said.
Many shoppers tell us they appreciate the deep discounts, but still plan to be cautious.
"I will probably be spending less because of the economy," Constance Weaver of Southwest Philadelphia said.
A week from now, Black Friday will be in full swing and retailers are hoping that it will be green start to the holiday season.
