Deadly fire in Chicago apartment building

  

November 22, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- One person died and another was injured this weekend in an apartment fire on the city's West Side.

Firefighters found a 65-year-old man dead inside the first floor apartment of a two-story building in the 1700-block of S. Ridgeway Avenue.

A female victim was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

There were no working smoke detectors inside the building.

Firefighters went door-to-door in the area Sunday handing out free smoke detectors.
