Elvis autopsy instrument auction canceled

  

July 23, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A Chicago auction house has canceled plans to sell instruments supposedly used in Elvis Presley's autopsy and embalming.

Memphis funeral home president E.C. Daves says that there is no way to tell whether the instruments are authentic.

Daves says a retired embalmer claims he took the items after Presley's embalming in 1977, but another employee told him the instruments were sterilized and used again.

The items included rubber gloves, forceps and a toe tag.

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers had planned to offer them in two lots valued at $6,000 and $8,000.
