Chicago's extensive network of surveillance cameras, already the largest in the nation, is about to get even bigger.

That's the upshot from Tuesday's meeting of the Public Buildings Commission, the first to be chaired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Areas in the city's downtown Financial District will get the additional cameras. Those sites include the Federal Reserve, the Chicago Board of Trade and the AT&T Switching Center.

The mayor calls the new camera placements necessary for matters of homeland security. The new cameras are being paid for through a Department of Homeland Security grant.
