December 5, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Hundreds of Chicagoans who are involved in the Occupy movement are boarding buses for Washington, D.C. Monday morning.
Three buses will carry the protestors from Occupy Chicago to Washington, D.C. The movement has taken place in cities across the country. Protestors say U.S. Congress needs to represent the 99-percent, not just the 1-percent of the nation's wealthiest people.
Many of the protestors are unemployed and say they have been job hunting for years.
"I want to work. I don't want to take a handout, but right now the economy is so bad, things are so screwed up that something has got to be done to help people get jobs," Andy Gebel said.
"We need jobs. We need a jobs bill. I would say tax the 1-percent. I would say house the 99-percent and rebuild our communities," Shawni Smith said.
The Occupy Chicago group will join thousands of other protestors in the nation's capital.
