December 5, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- The family of a man who died after being arrested by North Chicago police officers is calling for the city's police chief to resign.
Darrin Hanna's relatives attended a North Chicago city council meeting Monday night where city officials discussed the circumstances of the case.
On November 6, officers say they responded to a domestic disturbance at his home and Hanna had to be restrained. He was hospitalized for some injuries and later died of unknown causes.
Hanna's mother says her son was brutally beaten.
"They beat him so bad his eyes were popped out if the socket. No dog deserved to be beat like he was beat," Gloria Carr, mother, told ABC7.
North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham says the officers in the case have been re-assigned until the Illinois State Police is done investigating the incident.
