Mayor Rahm Emanuel responded Tuesday to parents who marched passed his house Monday night to protest more school closings and so-called school ''turnarounds.''

The group walked through Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. The parents claim, in the past, schools have shown little if any improvement after they go through the turnaround process. That's where new teachers and administrators are brought in.

Mayor Emanuel says those schools have seen double the improvements in math and reading compared to the entire school system, and he wants that for more children.

"If I give them the chance at a good teacher, an accountable principal, and encourage parental involvement, our kids have a chance at the future. That's my responsibility," Emanuel said.

A final decision by the board of education on closings and turnaround schools is expected Wednesday.
