Third Year in a Row: All Urban Prep Academy seniors headed to 4-year schools

March 30, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Urban Prep Academy has repeated an accomplishment that some thought would be impossible: all 85 seniors got into 4-year colleges.

It's the third year in a row that the all-boys high school has pulled it off. The seniors received a red and gold tie to signify the accomplishment, and urged to stay positive as they moved up into the next level of education.

"Critics didn't believe that a bunch of boys in the hood could be boys doing good," Tim King said.

The senior class president challenged his classmates to continue their achievements in college, but remember their Englewood high school.

"The Urban Prep creed is not just words we say, it's the responsibility we have to our community and that we stay dedicated and focused in our class," James Jackson said.

The students celebrated the accomplishment Friday morning with Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and alumni from the classes of 2010 and 2011, who talked to students about their college experience so far.

The accomplishments of Urban Prep students have drawn international recognition.
