Wheaton soldier's body arrives in Illinois

May 26, 2012 (WHEATON, Ill.) (WLS) -- The body of west suburban soldier Samuel Watts has returned to Illinois.

The Army specialist died a week ago Saturday, nearly a month after he was injured in an improvised explosive device attack in Afghanistan.

The Wheaton native died from his wounds at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Watts enlisted in the army in July 2010. He was on his first deployment to Afghanistan. He was 20 years old when he died.

Watts will be honored at a Memorial Day ceremony at the DuPage County government complex in Wheaton Saturday. His name will be included as one of the fallen heroes honored at a cermony at 2 p.m.

His funeral was scheduled for next Tuesday.
