April 10, 2013 (JOLIET, Ill.) (WLS) -- Two semi-trucks collided on Interstate 80 early Wednesday, killing one of the drivers and temporarily closing the expressway to westbound traffic in Joliet, state police said.
The two tractor-trailers were traveling near Houbolt Road when they collided about 3:42 a.m., said Illinois State Police Sgt. R.A. Caves.
A trucktractor pulling a semi-trailer was traveling on the ramp from Houbolt Rd. to westbound I-80 when, for unknown reasons, was struck by a truck-tractor semi-trailer that was traveling on I-80 westbound.
One of the truck drivers was killed in the collision. Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Motorists were redirected along a detour route on Route 6 while the westbound lanes were closed for a crash investigation, state police said.
No one had been cited for the crash as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.
