October 15, 2013 (DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.) (WLS) -- Students at a suburban high school were honored for supporting a deserving classmate.
The band from Downers Grove North High School played in honor of Anne Wagner.
She has Down Syndrome and missed much of her sophomore and junior year after being diagnosed with leukemia.
When Wagner returned for her senior year, her classmates started a social networking drive to elect her as this year's homecoming queen.
And she won.
Governor Pat Quinn proclaimed Tuesday "Downers Grove North High School Day" in honor of Wagner and her classmates.
