Wednesday, October 16, 2013
October 16, 2013 (ST. CHARLES, Ill.) -- A northern Illinois man was sentenced to 66 years in prison for beating a woman in the face with a hammer, raping a child and stabbing a dog in a rampage at a west suburban Chicago home.
Twenty-nine-year-old Daniel J. Happ of Carpentersville was sentenced Tuesday in Kane County court. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill. Happ faced up to 93 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Happ was visiting the woman at her boyfriend's home last March when he attacked her and sexually assaulted the boyfriend's 8-year-old daughter.
Happ is also accused of stabbing the family dog multiple times with a kitchen knife. He apologized in court.
