TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau to remain in jail through weekend

Thursday, October 24, 2013

A judge has refused to free TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau from jail for failing to pay a $37 million civil judgment.

The 50-year-old stood in orange jail clothes during a Thursday hearing in Chicago. He's been in jail for contempt since Tuesday and will remain there at least until another hearing Monday.

As Trudeau asked to be released, he insisted he's disclosed all his global assets. But Judge Robert Gettleman says he'd be "naive" to believe Trudeau. Gettleman added: "and I'm not naive."

The Federal Trade Commission sued Trudeau for deceiving viewers about weight-loss claims. It says he's hiding assets in shell companies.

Receiver attorney Blair Zanzig told the judge Trudeau must prove he's being truthful, saying "the proof is in the pudding and we don't have any pudding."
