University of Illinois jumps 33 spots on Forbes rankings list of America's Top Colleges

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

The University of Illinois has jumped 33 spots in Forbes Magazine's ranking of "America's Top Colleges."

That puts Illinois at No. 53 on this year's list. On the list of public colleges, it's No. 10, ahead of Wisconsin, Texas, Penn State and Indiana.

The magazine says its rankings are based on a student's return on investment. The 12 metrics include post-graduate job success and salary as well as debt.

Illinois spokeswoman Robin Kaler says it's nice to be recognized in such rankings but the university has its own criteria for measuring its performance.

She tells The (Champaign) News-Gazette that the university understands students pay attention to magazine rankings.

But Kaler says it's better for prospective students to visit the campus and decide for themselves.
