July 30, 2013 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) -- Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is planning to discuss her political future during a series of trips around the state.
The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises newspapers saysthe Carbondale Democrat sent an email to supporters late Monday, saying she'd release "very exciting news" about her campaign on Wednesday.
For five months, Simon has kept mum on her plans for next year, saying only that she'll seek another statewide office. She hasn't said what position she might seek, but has touted her background as a former county prosecutor and law professor.
Simon's campaign manager has said she's been interested in comptroller, a position now held by Republican Judy Baar Topinka.
Simon's set to kick off her tour Wednesday in Chicago before visiting Springfield and Carbondale.
