August 3, 2013 (CAHOKIA, Ill.) -- A southwestern Illinois man accused of fleeing a traffic stop and dragging a police officer has been charged with attempted murder.
Twenty-five-year-old DeLawrence Foggy of the St. Louis suburb of Cahokia was charged Friday.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a St. Clair County judge set his bail at $750,000.
Police Chief James Jones says the man drove off when asked to step out of his vehicle Thursday.
Jones says the officer making the traffic stop got caught by the door and was dragged 75 feet. He was not seriously injured.
Other officers used spike strips to puncture the suspect's car tires. The suspect kept going but lost control of the car, which overturned.
The driver was injured and hospitalized. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
