Solar farm project at U of I delayed

October 13, 2013 (CHAMPAIGN, Ill.) -- The installation of a 20.5-acre solar farm at the University of Illinois is being pushed back after questions about the project and its review process.

The (Champaign) News Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/18b1Oe7 ) that installation was supposed to start in the summer and finish by fall. But a state official raised questions about the firm that will partner with the university on the project, along with questions about the bidding process.

University officials say installation might not start until next spring, which puts the university behind in its renewable energy targets.

Morgan Johnston is a sustainability coordinator for the university's facilities and services. He says it's a large-scale project and he's concerned.

Trustees at the university approved a $15.5 million for the project in November.
