The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has completed its assessment of air pollution in northwestern Indiana's highly industrialized and heavily traveled Lake and Porter counties.

The agency says it will release the findings of its study Thursday evening during a public meeting at Gary Public Library's Du Bois Branch at 1835 Broadway.

IDEM says the meeting will be a chance for residents and others to learn how IDEM evaluated air-monitoring data and performed air-dispersion modeling of industry and motor vehicles within the study area to assess possible health risks.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identified the area as a potential high-risk area in its 2005 National Air Toxic Assessment.

Thursday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. CDT. The IDEM report is available online at http://bit.ly/18NL1gk.
